A Little Feast ~ A Little Famine

Yesterday I auditioned for a television series and a feature film. 
Today I am auditioning for a short film. 

 Regardless of if I get any or all of these amazing opportunities, just being asked to the dance is reason to smile. It's a fact a lot of people don't even get to audition. Being asked to audition for these projects doesn't mean anything other  than I met some requirement which piqued their interest in me as an actor. 

 It doesn't pay to read anything into anything in this business. 
There is no winning formula. There is no answer. 

 Sometimes it is about talent. Far too often it's about the look. Sometimes it is purely timing. You were somewhere at the right moment and something clicked. 

 Like the man said, "I don't care if you pray to a tree. I don't care how you get from A to B...as long as you get there."

 That's it in a nutshell, I guess. 
You have to be true to you. You have to listen to your gut and do what you're heart tells you is right for you to do. 

 I'm learning to shut everything out except for my goal to be a better actor and successful in my career. I'm going to filter through what I need to retain to further myself as a performer and as a professional. There's far too much noise out there though...too much chatter...and I have to listen to my own voice. 

 So, now I sit and I wait. 
I will be still as I move lightning from cloud to cloud in a storm.

 Just keeping it reel.

    your hard work, reliability great attitude, and skills (which are growing every day) will get you where you want to be. That and your tenacity of course :)

Birdman...Wordman

Let me just say from the start of this post  this is not a review of the 2014 film Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and starring Michael Keaton.  It's not a review. Watch it or don't. Totally up to you. My silly little blog couldn't possibly persuade you one way or the other.  I guess what has my brain racing and my emotions a little tweaked is the theme of Birdman, which, in my opinion, is the struggle to find and keep oneself in a business that is so good at helping you lose yourself.  Birdman is definitely a commentary on show business, more specifically the trend of raising actors to a level of almost God-like status because they played characters who had been raised to the level of almost God-like status. Self-awareness is the key and such self-examination means stripping down and looking into a mirror and giving yourself a good once over.  Well. Not once over, I guess. That's just awkward.
