Stars & Stand-Ins | THR

Jeff Bridges & Loyd Catlett Stars & Stand-Ins From The Hollywood Reporter Lloyd Catlett has been Jeff Bridges' stand-in for 48 years.  48 years . 48. I mean...what?? Unbelievable.  Catlett said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter: "When people ask me what I do for a living, I tell them I sell bar napkins and swizzle sticks. Being Jeff Bridges' stand-in and stunt double, I just get too many questions. It's too difficult to sum up." Check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSae3RrGvAc

Actress Olivia Colman accepted her OSCAR last night in truly wonderful fashion.  There were no political statements and there was no drama. There was only utter surprise and genuine gratitude. In other words, she was a class act and gave an acceptance speech that should set the bar for future acceptance speeches extremely high.  Colman's performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite has garnered her critical praise and several prestigious awards which include a BAFTA  for Best Actress and last night's OSCAR for Best Actress (beating out heavily favorited-no pun intended-and my pick-Glenn Close) By the way, in her speech, Colman addressed Glenn Close who was sitting right in front of her and said "You've been my idol for so long and this is not how I wanted it to be." I don't Colman expected to win and was obviously floored by the announcement. What happened next, as she stood there holding her little golden man was true magic. Sh...

I'd rather watch the SAG Awards or the Spirit Awards. Maybe I'm being naive but there seems to be something much more sincere about these awards then say The Academy Awards.  The Academy Awards. The OSCARS.  Not me. Not this year. Count me out.  There's already been too much talk about the show itself. I feel bad for the people nominated (only slightly) because it just seems like the shine has been dulled a little by controversy and bullshit. It's becoming way too PC and political and those are too things which I detest.  I'll catch all the news Monday morning in what I'm sure will be very insightful recaps of Hollywood's biggest night .   Best part about not watching? It's three and a half hours I can devote to something else.  No host this year? Okay. Hey! Famous person! Who are you wearing? Yawn. Won't...miss...any...of...it. Let's make it short and sweet.  Here's your OSCAR. See you at the after party. A party! That's ...

Oh What Big Lies You Have

I've been watching the Jussie Smollet saga unfold over the last few weeks just as the world has. I have to admit that elements of his story didn't make sense to me... White, Pro-Trump racists who knew you from your FOX Television show Empire? Really? R E A L L Y? I guess anything's possible. But I digress... I have to admit that elements of his story didn't make sense to me... but I reserved judgement until more evidence was introduced.  You always want to, always must, give the victim of any kind of crime the benefit of the doubt. You want to weigh all the facts and see where the narrative leads you and then, hopefully, the story will end with the truth being revealed.  Certainly, if events occurred as Smollet has claimed, this was a brutal and horrific attack.  He'd been telling the same, horrible and maddening story on several networks. The actor and musician had apparently been the victim of an alleged hate crime which contained ri...

That's The Guy

So I watched a television show the other night purely out of the need to watch the actor who got the role I had auditioned for about a month ago. Does that make me a bad person? I was curious. So sue me. Let me state a few facts right off.  This was not a show I watched with any regularity. In fact, I've never watched a single episode of it.  The role I had auditioned for was a guest starring role. One and done. I say to justify why I wouldn't need to watch any additional episodes of the series I had already not been watching.  I watched the episode, waiting for the scene in which, let's call him Larry , makes his first appearance. I knew the scene from the sides I had been given for the audition. I waited.  There was the line about the test.  I knew we were getting close.  There was the phone call and the angry hang up.  And...cue...Larry.  Uh huh. Okay. So that's the guy.  Larry walks in and delivers his first line and I...

Albert Finney as Ed Masry Erin Brokavitch "It's a marvellous life, a gregarious life that we've had. We're very lucky in that way. Unlike writers or painters, we don't sit down in front of a blank canvas and say, 'How do I start? Where do I start?" - Albert Finney Albert Finney    May 9, 1936 - February 8, 2019 Rest in peace.
