MY EMMY RECAP
The 2018 Emmy's aired on NBC on Monday, September 17, 2018
If I had to give it a grade, because that's what we're doing these days. Unless, that is, The President has started using the gold stars on the refrigerator system to describe his performance. Then of course, that will become the new national standard.
I'd give this year's Emmy's a C. Or two and three quarters gold stars. It was just okay. Despite some of my favorites winning awards and some good jokes, the show was just...meh.
There were two moments however which will be talked about for a while.

I'd give this year's Emmy's a C. Or two and three quarters gold stars. It was just okay. Despite some of my favorites winning awards and some good jokes, the show was just...meh.
There were two moments however which will be talked about for a while.
1. DON'T CALL HIM FONZIE
After his first nomination 43 years ago, Henry Winkler won an Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy for his work on the HBO show Barry.
He pulled his speech out of his jacket pocket and said, "I wrote this 43 years ago."
He then went on to thank director Alec Berg, his co-stars, with special mention to lead actor and fellow Emmy winner Bill Hader, the production team and HBO.
Backstage Winkler said, "Be yourself, be honest about your ability, prepare so that you are not a flash in the pan,” Winkler said. “When I first started here in Hollywood … I thought of myself as a tree or sapling. I planted. I wanted to grow and be strong until I couldn’t do this anymore. And what a great tree it is.”
Congratulations, Henry.
And that's exactly what Director Glenn Weiss did when after accepting his Emmy for directing the 2017 Academy Awards show when he proposed to his girlfriend Jan Svendsen.
"Jan, you are the sunshine in my life," Weiss said. "And mom was right, don't ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife."
The stunned audience around Svenden erupted into cheers. Svendsen looked genuinely stunned. That is to say I don't think it was a staged moment. Svendsen then made her way on to the stage, where Weiss got on one knee and gave her his mother's wedding ring.
"I want to put this ring that my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mom and your parents watching from above," Weiss said. "Will you marry me?"
Oh, and by the way, she said yes.
The show should have ended right there on a high point.

2. WILL SHE OR WON'T SHE
Nothing breaks the monotony of a so-hum awards show more than a guy getting down on one knee and proposing to his very surprised girlfriend.
And that's exactly what Director Glenn Weiss did when after accepting his Emmy for directing the 2017 Academy Awards show when he proposed to his girlfriend Jan Svendsen.
