Let's talk about head shots. They're the most important marketing tool for an actor. They are your business card to casting directors and to the world.
Above are some selected photos from my recent session with Photographer Jeremy Bustin. These photos aren't technically head shots. They are more horizontal in layout.
Below is a headshot. It has been cropped and sized appropriately.
I've been lucky to have worked with Jeremy twice now. The headshot photos Jeremy has shot for me have been well-received by agents and casting directors. Jeremy understands his craft and has an undeniable talent and passion for it. I've been lucky to work with him and gladly promote him. If you are an actor and have never had headshot photos taken, contact Jeremy. If you are an actor who has headshots but want a new look and wants to switch things up a little, contact Jeremy.

Let's talk about another type of photography.

And now for something completely different.
Elizabeth Byland Actor Improvisor Director Acting Coach |
Education is important. Doesn't matter how old you are. Doesn't matter at what level you're currently existing at in your chosen profession. Knowledge is good.
Fire bad. Education good.
I have had the pleasure for the last four weeks of participating in an actor's intensive. It's a workshop, folks. An acting class. It's just intense.
What else is intense is the passion the instructor has for people, her craft and this business.
What else is intense is the passion the instructor has for people, her craft and this business.
Elizabeth Byland is an actor, improvisor, director, acting coach, dancer and high-energy, mini-tornado of exuberance. I added that last part. High energy, mini tornado of exuberance isn't on her resume. It should be, but it's not.
Classes and workshops are all subjective. Everyone is going to get something different from them.
What's important is that the class is well-run and the information being offered is, first off, correct, but also relevant. If you can totally luck out and have an instructor who makes the class as informative as it is fun, as Elizabeth does, every Tuesday from 7pm to 9pm, sometimes a little past that but that's okay because it's not torture, then consider yourself a lucky pup.
Paul Newman was continued taking acting classes long past when he had become an established, bonafide actor with serious cred.
By the way, this is one of my favorite Paul Newman quotes:
I digress.
The point is, if you're an actor, learn. Take classes, read a book, watch movies and television series. See a play. Shit. Write a play! Learn. Grow. Feed your brain. Fuel your spirit!
You can learn something every freaking day if you just put down your phone and look around. Listen to the world. Look at it! See it! Watch people. Listen to them.
And if you're looking for a teacher who will inspire you and utterly charm you with her smile and passion, check out Elizabeth Byland.

There are good, talented people out in the world who can help you further your career. You just have to look for them. Do your homework. Put on your Nancy Drew shoes (whatever the Hell those are!) and do some digging. Ask around. Get off your butt and do something.
