OF MUSKETS AND SCARS
January 14, 2014
It is a rainy cold day here in the fabulous West End of Richmond, Virginia. In other words its a perfect day to sit and do some writing...and laundry...and then there's the Christmas tree that needs to be undecorated...de-baubled? Stripped naked? Any way...
We've just wrapped on Episode 4 of AMC's TURN. I say 'we' but I mean the production company. I guess in theory I'm part of the production company so..
We've wrapped on Episode 4 of AMC's TURN
And that's all I'm saying about any of that. I've said it before...you will get no spoilers or inside information from this guy.
See! Did I tell you or what?
I'm still have to pinch myself and tell myself that is all really happening. I am part of this. From whatever happens from this point on, I am part of this show. Nothing can change that!
I've never had an actual prosthetic applied to me before and it was pretty much everything I thought it would be. It was sticky and when you have as much body hair as I do...well..let me just say it took forever to remove my wound when we wrapped.
Cool as shit though! My first fake wound! Bloody and nasty and gushing and scabby and just too cool. My inner child was loving every minute of it. I also got to carry a musket and camp out in the woods! I mean the only way it could have gotten better would be if there had been cheesecake.

I've got some down time. That's the point I'm trying to make here.

If you have no idea what I am talking about or do and haven't seen the promotional trailer for Turn, then click on the link below. It is brilliant. The show is going to be brilliant.

Except editing.
(womp womp wommmp)
Who knows?
I might sit down in front of my high-def 22 inch screen on the premiere night of Turn, a bowl of popcorn wedged between us, nerves on high alert, butterflies the size of really big butterflies doing loopty-loops in my tummy...only to discover I've been cut from every scene I was part of throughout the season.
It could happen.
It has happened.
It sucks when it happens.
It was a good day yesterday.
Long, but good.
Long, but good.
I don't think it is giving too much away for me to say this was my first day having a musket as a prop and having a prosthetic scar applied to my body. I'll let you imagine where.

Working on Turn has been an amazing experience.
I've worked on three complete episodes and I'm heading back to finish my fourth.
I'm learning so much from this experience about myself as a person and me as an actor.
There is an art to being a background actor and I think I'm getting the hang of it.
As I posted on Facebook:
"Be seen but not noticed. Have a conversation but don't say a word. Look busy but don't distract. Hurry up and wait."
Sorry. I got distracted. I heard the mailman and I wanted to grab our mail before it got soaking wet. So now I'm sitting here with several paychecks in my hand.
I guess that confirms it.
I'm a working-getting paid!-there's no denying-actor.
It doesn't get any reeler than that.
I know its not a real word. Just work with me a little...okay?
